Chinese Qing Dynasty Period Wooden Compound Cabinet with Doors and Carved Apron

About the Item

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period wooden compound cabinet from the 19th century, with four doors, foliage-carved apron and brass medallion hardware. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this large compound wardrobe features a small upper cabinet presenting a set of double doors. The lower section, of higher proportions, is made of two doors fitted with a brass medallion echoed from the top accented with pierced knobs and teardrop pulls. These doors open to reveal inner shelves, hidden drawers and a low compartment concealed under a removable panel, all offering convenient storage opportunities. The lower section presents a beautifully carved apron adorned with scrolling foliage and flowers. Compound cabinets were used for storage. The top would contain out of season clothing while the main cabinet would be used as a wardrobe for everyday use including bedding and clothes for the season. The ensemble is raised on four straight feet accented with a simply carved apron on two sides. With its clean lines and tall proportions, this Chinese Qing Dynasty period compound cabinet from the 19th century will bring a touch of elegance to any home, particularly placed in a bedroom or a living room. The lower cabinet is 65.5" H while the upper one is 27"H.
