Transitional Style Ormolu-Mounted Marquetry Commode, 19th Century

About the Item

Late 19th century transitional style marquetry commode with three drawers. The set is topped with a Breche d’Alep molded marble top with canted corners. A marquetry motif of interlacing and flowers runs under the marble top across the sides and top drawer. Beneath that, also on the sides and across the other two drawers, is a marquetry motif of cubes. The corners are decorated with gilt bronze pilasters draped with garlands, and the drawer pulls are gilt bronze laurel wreaths. The keyholes are embellished with gilt bronze ribbons. The chest of drawers is raised on cabriole legs capped with scrolling and gilt bronze acanthus leaves, circa 1880. Dimension: W: 33.1 in, D: 18.5 in, H: 33.5in.
