20th Italian Cabinet on Stand, Baroque Bargueno with Inlays & Mounts

Sample desktop pool located on ball and claw with handles on the sides. The buffet or table that holds barguen~era is carved legs insured by lower chambrana (also machined with a given center) together and to the cover by curved metal fasteners capped scroll.
Barguen~o paws have claw-shaped carved synthesized bird on ball, something very typical of the seventeenth century. The cover has this elegant geometric decoration, and so do the five drawers discover: the decoration of the side to diamonds made in marquetry by dark wood inlaid fillets of light, an element that is repeated in the interior of the chapel is reduced.
As usual in the baroque barguen~o, the center of the sample is where the decoration is conducted, in general, based on areas tortoiseshell framed or highlighted with dark wood moldings and surrounded by sinuous curved lines made in marquetry, always maintaining symmetry. T
The general outline of the furniture is very common in all the European Baroque and the compositional clarity not break until the arrival of the Rococo. All decorative elements, based on the classical tradition, are characteristic of this type of furniture: desks with outdoor displays of this scheme are known and performed throughout Europe, with a Flemish influence in its creation, the Italians being the most valued for their decoration.
The practice of employing tortoiseshell plates...

Italian Cabinet with Table, 17th Century
Located in Madrid, ES
Italian cabinet in tortoise shell, wood and gilded bronze, wood of rosewood, lemongrass and iron fasteners. 17th century. Table with walnut board.
Uncovered sample desk located on eight claws with ball and two handles on the sides. The front presents the central part advanced, with chapel; Four rectangular drawers to the sides of the same; the piece is topped by a corridor adorned with vegetal scrolls topped by eight infantile figures and an eagle crowned on orb above the central crown. The table that supports it and stands out is turned legs secured by lower chambranas (also turned and with central dice) to each other, and fixed to the top of the furniture thanks to curved metallic fasteners with disc in the center; The tabletop shows a geometric decoration in inlay of dark woods on whites.
The general scheme of the furniture responds to models known and used in cabinetmaking throughout Europe throughout the seventeenth century of which the best examples are considered of Italian origin, such as the present. Thus, its decorative elements belong to the same tradition: the legs carved in the form of claw of bird synthesized on ball are very typical of the century; the sides are flatter and simpler (geometric marquetry around molding and handles in gilded bronze concentrate all decoration, vegetable); etc.
As is usual in Baroque cabinets, the center of the front area is where the decoration is concentrated, made of golden-haired hawksbill areas and highlighted by external moldings in darker wood, ornamented by inlaid circles, always maintaining the symmetry. The chapel follows an architectural composition: lower basement highlighted, like the rest, with appliques of gilded bronze; Facade between four columns with an emphasis and a niche in the center with Athena, goddess of wisdom in classical mythology; The upper shot invades this last central space, providing movement. When opening the door that closes it, six small drawers are discovered to the sides and two majors up and down, flanking all of them an inner space of columns, semi-circular arches and a checkered floor that simulates much greater to the spectator by means of a theatrical trick with mirrors.
This general scheme is very common throughout the European Baroque, and would not break its compositional clarity until Rococo in the 17th century. In Spain, the typology of the present desk coexisted with the one of the "bargueño", being preferred these types by its greater decorative wealth and in the materials used. The Classic elements of which it gala would respond to that Classic tradition, stronger in the Italian territory than in the Hispanic...
