Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand. Decorated Cabinet In Fruitwood , Marble top

About the Item

A Louis Philippe fruitwood cabinet with blue Turin marble top, sides and front richly decorated with a design of figures and ornaments, front with two doors behind which drawers. Signed G. Durand, Paris. Mid-19th century. Measures: H. 98 cm., W. 126 cm., D. 55 cm. Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand worked 12, rue de la Cerisaie, then 23, rue Beautreillis from 1878. In 1900 he moved to 62, rue Saint-Antoine in the former Hotel de Sully, Its factory took then the name Durand and Son. His designs were in competition to those of Beurdeley and Dasson and produced the most exclusive furnishings in 18th century style. He exhibited at the London universal exhibition in 1889 and won a silver medal. Literature: Denise Ledoux-Lebard: Les Ébénistes Parisiens 1795-1870, p. 155 and pictured pl. XXXIV.
