19th Century French Marquetry Marble-Top Bombe Commode
About the Item
Requiring the talents of four master artisans, 19th century French marquetry marble-top bombe commodes such as this example needed a talented menuisier to create the complex natrualistic, curved form of the case, followed by the ebeniste who applied veneer and marquetry in a purely artistic form, next followed by the metalsmith who applied bronze mounts custom-made for this particular piece, and lastly the stonemason who contoured and bevelled a solid slab of marble for the perfect crown to the collaborative achievement!
