19th Century Mahogany Pedestal Chest

About the Item

A Very Fine Quality Late 19th Century Mahogany Wellington Type Pedestal Chest Having Well Figured Top Over Seven Drawers, With Chamfered Edges And Original Brass Swan Neck Handles, Flanked By Elegant Reeded Stiles, Raised On Original Plinth Base. Makers/Retailers Plaque To Drawer - "Maple & Co, London." This fabulous quality late 19th century victorian mahogany chest of drawers is very similar in proportion to the ever popular wellington chest although it doesn't have the hinged pilaster with single lock like a wellington chest. Instead with this particular design you get seven superbly smooth, functional drawers with their own locks.  The chest is incredibly useful and would suit a huge variety of spaces around both the home and the office due to its great functionality. It also retains it's original brass swan neck handles and stands on its original plinth.  There is a makers/retailers plaque contained within one of the drawers to show that it was once a part of the inventory of the exceptional London firm Maple & Co, so its hardly surprising that it is such good quality if they were willing to offer it for sale. Maple & Co were one of the most well known furniture makers and retailers in both the United Kingdom and the Rest Of The World at the end of the 19th Century and they offered only the best of the best. The chest is in excellent condition and comes with working locks and keys. As with all of the items which we offer for sale it has been cleaned, naturally wax polished and inspected, using traditional methods by our highly skilled furniture restorers before being offered for sale, ensuring it is ready for immediate use.  Circa 1880.  Measures: Height 50in.  Width 27in.  Depth 19in.
