Antique 18th Century Dutch Oak Drop Front Bombe Secretary Desk Secretaire

About the Item

A beautiful Dutch Baroque style secretary with a 3-drawer bombe front and carved ball and claw feet. The drop front opens up to reveal an oak writing area and stepped drawers. This compartment is centered upon a lockable door with a hidden drawer behind it. It is flanked by four letter compartments with drawers under and above. The sides house a stepped three drawer compartment. In front of the central door, there is a well located that opens up by sliding the lid inwards. The secretaire features its original brass hardware and showcases exceptional craftsmanship with ajour cut drawer pulls and keyplates. This exquisite piece of furniture is of exceptional quality and was to be found in high end interiors only. It stems from the era that is also known as the golden age. The secretaire is completely made in the best possible quality European oak and has a wonderful patina built up over its long lifespan.

  • Condition:
    Repaired: two locks were repaired. The secretaire was gently cleaned inside and out. A fresh wax coat was applied to further enrich the patina. In two locks the springs have been replaced. The whole secretaire is now functional again and its appearance is of museum quality now.

    An elegant Dutch cabinet or cupboard that was made in The Netherlands, circa 1820s. It was completely made in the best quality fine European oak. It has a bombe base ending on claw and ball feet. The base houses 4 drawers each with the original brass key plates and drawer pulls. All drawers are equipped with working locks with a key. The upper cabinet has two elegant doors with beautiful recessed panels. Behind the doors, there are three drawers situated at the bottom, above a shelf with two cutlery drawers underneath.
