French 19th Century Transitional St. Mahogany Commode

About the Item

A very handsome mid 19th century French Transitional st. mahogany commode/secretary. The commode with all original hardware and the marble top is raised by cabriole legs all below four drawers. The top drawer opens up to a burgundy leather writing surface while having drawers inside with various compartments. Above lays a black marble top with a moulded edge.

    A stunning French 19th century Transitional st. mahogany, kingwood, ormolu and marble three drawer, two door commode, signed KRIEGER. The chest is raised by most elegant cabriole legs with fine fitted foliate ormolu sabots and an elegant ormolu chute that leads up to a detailed floral corner mount. At the center are two drawers 'sans traverse' (without crossbar), showcasing the high level of craftsmanship. The bottom drawer displays a beautiful central ormolu mount with richly chased urns and swaging floral garlands and finely detailed berried laurel garland pulls. The central drawer displays the same fine pulls and a foliate keyhole escutcheon with a lovely tied ribbon which locks both drawers and opens to reveal the signature at the lock.
