Italian 18th Century Neoclassical Period Walnut Chest

About the Item

A handsome Italian Neo-Classical 18th-century walnut chest. The rectangular-shaped chest is raised by four straight tapered legs leading to the scalloped apron. Above is a door opening upwards, a mechanism invented by Giuseppe Maggiolini, revealing two drawers. The walnut door is beautifully decorated with a kingwood border, embellished with circular design elements in Blue John stone amidst exquisite tulipwood marquetry of foliage garlands, centered by urns. Above is a single drawer with a kingwood border and tulipwood marquetry of foliate garlands. Each side of the chest is likewise decorated. At the top lays a thick white Carrara marble.
