About the Item
This is an old Japanese drawer.
The original red color has balanced with soot from its long use in an old house with an irori hearth, and has turned a natural reddish-brown. The peeling paint over time is beautifully balanced, making this a one-of-a-kind piece.
It is thought to date from around the Meiji period and is made of cedar.
The small top drawer has some internal dividers.
The color is a natural change that cannot be achieved in a new piece, and the scratches and peeling paint give it a texture reminiscent of a natural work of art that could not be created by human hands.
It has a simple and beautiful look just by leaving it as is, but it also makes a great display by placing a vase or small item on top.
