Small Regency Mahogany Bow Chest
About the Item
A Superb Quality Early 19th Century Regency Period Mahogany Bowfronted Chest, Of Rare Small Proportions, Having Extremely Well Figured Top Over Two Short And Two Long Drawers With Replacement Brass Handles, Raised On Elegant Original Turned, Tapering Legs.
This is a quite beautiful piece of antique regency furniture. The proportions are incredibly rare, much smaller than is most commonly seen and that in itself gives the piece great elegance and sophistication. The choice of mahogany timbers is also exceptional, with rich, well figured mahogany used which retains exceptional colour and patina to this very day.The chest also has a panelled back which is always another great sign of quality.
It retains it’s original turned feet, but has replacement brass handles. These do however look perfectly in keeping with the rest of the piece and actually really add to the look of it.
Overall the condition is excellent, used but not abused and as with all the items we offer for sale it has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled and trained antique furniture restorers in the traditional fashion before being offered for sale. This means it is in good retail condition and ready to go into immediate use.

- Late Regency 19th Century Burr Oak Miniature ChestLocated in Bedfordshire, GBA delightful Regency Period burr oak miniature chest having Superbly figured top above two short & three long drawers with Original brass knobs flanked by elegant fluted stiles raised on Original brass ball feet (Often much debate is had as to whether miniature furniture was made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans sample piece, which is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road trip during which the salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and take orders from. This particular miniature chest of drawers is probably the latter and would have been made as a sample piece. The construction is exquisite and the attention to tiny detail phenomenal in all honesty. They work that would have gone into constructing this with all of its fine details would actually have been more of a challenge and taken a more skilled craftsmen than its full size counterparts would have done. It is also super quality and unusual being constructed from burr oak which has taken on an exceptional rich colour and patina over the years of its life. A really quite charming piece of antique miniature furniture...Category

- Mahogany Double Wellington ChestLocated in Bedfordshire, GBA Very Good Quality Late 19th Century Mahogany Double Wellington Chest With Two Banks Of Six Drawers With Replacement Brass Knobs Flanked By Hinged Locking Pilaster To Each Side Raised On Original Plinth Base. The first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, commissioned the first chest of this type, i.e. a tall bank of drawers secured by hinged locking pilasters to take with him and carry around various battlefields and that is where the name wellington chest comes from. It is now used to refer to almost any tall, narrow antique chest of drawers. By default this particular design of chest is therefore referred to as a double wellington chest. From around 1820 onwards they were manufactured in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, plus they varied a great deal in terms of both their quality and the wood which they are constructed from. This wellington chest is of a form rarely found in terms of its double bank of drawers...Category
