Wood, Mahogany and Metal Tallboy, England, 19th Century
About the Item
Tallboy with two bodies of a type very common in England (and English related furniture) that has three drawers in its lower part and four in the upper, all with handle fittings (one missing) decorated, and with locks with shield elements of classicist influence. This style can also be seen in the columns that flank the upper part (grooved shaft, base and capital in gold metal) and in the crown molding. It is necessary to emphasize the similarity of the present example with other Georgian "tallboy" from around 1770. This type of furniture seems to have emerged in England in the late 17th century derived from "commodes" and were often made in mahogany, being much more common in the 18th century, also extending through North America.

- Mahogany and Metal Extensible Dining Table. England, 19th CenturyLocated in Madrid, ESRectangular table extendable by panels and mechanical system manually operated by crank, made of carved mahogany wood and metal elements (leg ends, mechanism, sheaves). The top board has been left smooth, with a slight recess towards the edges that curves the area and extends through the corners of the piece of furniture, contributing to the comfort of its use as a dining or conference table; The legs present an outstanding work of carving and turning, with a stipe shape and a memory of architectural columns for its combination of moldings, highlighting the polygonal base and the fact that it retains the wheels or small metal sheaves that help to move the piece of furniture. Both the wood chosen for the table (mahogany), and the lack of decorative elements (which enhances the quality of the material and the lines) are common features in the old English furniture...Category
