Early 19th Century Biedermeier Mahogany Commode, Berlin, circa 1820
About the Item
Biedermeier commode with tapering breakfront corpus and stepped pediment, with three long drawers on block feet. The whole veneered with mahogany on pine in book-match pattern - the wood with its grain configuration being the most important motif of decoration in the Biedermeier era. Ebonized oval escutcheons.
The item is part of a private Berlin collection and hast been thoroughly restored by the previous owner.

Jacques Bircklé, born 1734, received his cabinet makers' master title 1764 and set up shop at first at the rue de Charenton and later at the rue Saint Nicolas and became one of the most famous maitres ebenistes of his time.
