Fine French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Ormolu-Mounted Tulipwood Commode
About the Item
A very fine French, 19th century Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted mahogany and tulip wood commode with a brèche violette marble top, after the model by Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806). The mahogany body with tulip wood veneer, the frieze with three drawers and curved sides, all surmounted with very finely chased ormolu with its original gilt, circa 1880-1890.
Note: This commode is designed after Riesener's Model of The Commode du Concordat at Château de Fontainebleau, but without marquetry. It is commonly referred to as a Fontainebleau style commode.
