About the Item

Very fine, original and greatly restored neoclassical Empire Commode / Chest of three Drawers with beautiful caryatids from South Germany, circa 1810-1815. Wonderful, bright and friendly cherry veneer and solid wood, book-matched and running over the front side. Shellac hand polished and partly ebonized on the edges and feet. Beautiful original brass caryatids, gold colored heads and feet and ebonized pilaster body. Brass key tags, 1 original, 2 cast. Motif depicts two mermaids facing each other.
