English George III Period Inlaid Mahogany Gentleman's Dressing Table with Mirror

About the Item

An English George III inlaid mahogany gentleman's dressing table from the last quarter of the 18th century. Raised on square tapering legs and brass casters, the serpentine case is composed of a single drawer with two brass swan neck handles centring a keyhole escutcheon within a rectangular inlaid panel. A two-piece hinged rectangular top above opens to reveal a stand up mirror flanked by lidded compartments of various sizes and shapes adorned with similarly inlaid panels, along with bill and sundry areas. Dressing tables were essential pieces of furniture during the 18th century for storing personal effects or private correspondence. Beautifully proportioned and of ingenious design, this rare and elegant George III dressing table, with its refined inlays nicely standing out against the flamed mahogany, could be the statement piece that would accent any traditional home.
