About the Item
This quietly opulent serpentine chest by American architect and designer Samuel Marx (1885-1964) features four deep drawers, each in original griege lacquer with alternating bright silver-leaf (aluminum metal leaf). The case and drawer front is made of mahogany, and the drawer interiors are dovetailed in white oak. The chest was purchased by previous owner from 1325 North Astor Street in Chicago. Made by Quigley, its provenance is available. The chest is in excellent original condition and has been re-polished.
