About the Item

Antique corner cabinet with built-in grandfather clock Sweden Pine Classicism around 1800 Dimensions: height: 220 cm Description: Quite extraordinary corner cupboard with secretary compartment and built-in Mora grandfather clock. Two-piece Corner Cupboard standing on fluted pointed legs. The base consists of a two-door cabinet compartment and the writing surface folding forward above it. Inside there are 12 drawers and a central door. The top consists of two drawers and a mock drawer at the bottom. Above it, on the outside, there are two tall doors that follow the curved shape of the cornice. In the center, behind the original curved glass, we see the dial of the grandfather clock. Behind the door below, the pendulum swings and the weights run. Eight-day movement. Strikes on the hour. Hand-sawn brass hands. Dial illegibly signed. Condition: Restored to residential condition. Wood oiled, all drawers and doors run smoothly. Movement overhauled and cleaned. Runs well and reliably. Weights original, pendulum not original. Enclosed: a handwritten letter with the following (approximate) translation: On May 18, 1862, which was a Sunday, the entire original village of Bogården burned down. Consisting of three large farms, No: 1 Westegården (Erik Hans) No: 2 Bortigården (Mårtens Hans) No: 3 Östigården (Ol Hans). When the fire was extinguished, almost all the workers had gone to church, as was the custom at the time. In Östegården, where the fire raged, the cattle and all the furniture burned except for this bell cabinet, which a young man named Anders Olsson from Lohemme (Lok Anders) carried out of the burning yard with his own hands. The owner Per Olsson then sold the homestead, which was moved to Dahlån by the change in the law, and bought homestead No:3 in Hof. When his son Olof Persson sold this homestead around 1912, he signed the cabinet at the auction. The notes for the descendants in February 1937 by P. Löfgren.
