19th Century French Dessert Cabinet Server

About the Item

Beautifully hand carved burl walnut, antique country dessert console/ server/ hutch featuring two shelves plus the serving surface with two silverware drawers and double door storage cabinet below. A utilitarian, practical and aesthetic combination of Rococo style. Please note condition below. The cabinet has a nice French polish satin finish, but has some splits in the wood. It is vintage distressed and accepted as that since it has a country look. Bottom storage cabinet height is 36".

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. Very stable with no structural issues, but some warped areas and cracks/ splits on the front doors and on both side panels as shown in photos. Some small molding elements missing . Beautifully grained thick solid wood. Nice French polish finish.

    French late 19th century spelter sculpture by Hippolyte Moreau fitted with original 1 7/8" thick rouge griotte marble base. Hippolyte was one of the famous Moreau brothers, all of whom were sculptors. He was born in Dijon France in 1832 and died in 1927. This statue, in a warm chocolate brown patina depicts a diaphanously dressed woman with flowing scarf overhead and winged cherob at her side resting on the crest of a wave and shell. Hippolyte Moreau exhibited in the Salon des Artistes Français at the turn of the century and won a medal at the Universal Exposition in 1878 and another at the 1900 World Expo.
