19th Century English Walnut Davenport Desk
About
This is a Walnut Inlaid Davenport Desk made in England, circa 1870. The top gallery has a nicely molded edge and opens to reveal 10 open cubby holes / dividers for storage of paper, pens, Ink Wells, etc. The Green Leather Top writing surface also has a nicely molded edge and opens to reveal open storage, 3 drawers and 2 cubby holes. There are 4 working drawers on the right side of the desk and there are 4 false drawers on the left side. All of the turned wooded knobs on the drawers are original to the desk. There are 2 beautifully turned and carved columns on the front right and left of the desk. Each column has an open carved bracket on the top and a shaped and carved foot to the base. There are Walnut banded inlays with Satinwood String inlays around the writing surface and on the front panel of the desk. The back is finished to allow the desk to be shown in the middle of a room if so desired. The desk sits on a set of turned Bun Feet. The finish and overall physical condition are wonderful. The piece measures 21 in. wide x 21 1/4 in. deep x 32 1/2 in. tall. This is a great example of a fine quality English Davenport Desk.
