About the Item

Victorian Walnut Bonheur du Jour An unusual mid 19th century Victorian figured walnut bonheur du jour. The bonheur du jour has four drawers to the front, the three lower drawers have a Wellington chest style locking bar to the right hand side. The top drawer is fitted with a hinged writing board and ink, pen and pencil storage compartments. The drawers have raised panel fronts with turned knob handles and are lined with solid walnut. The top has double shelves above with fluted pillar and scroll supports and a low gallery to the top shelf. The lower part of the scroll supports have turned walnut finials as a decoration. The bonheur du jour is raised on casters and is very well made from excellent quality walnut, the drawer and side flap both have keys. (Circa 1860) Measures: Height 120.5cm (47.4 inches) Width 66.5cm (26.2 inches) Depth 54cm (21.3 inches).
