American Indianapolis, Indiana Mahogany Wooton Armoire Desk, circa 1880

About the Item

A Wooton desk, produced from 1874 to 1890 in Indianapolis, Indiana Designed by entrepreneur William S. Wooton. Produced in mahogany on large sledge feet, four large brass hinges open the two curved panelled doors to reveal an assortment of small drawers, nooks for papers, pigeon holes etc The desk has acquired a wonderful patina from day to day use, ink stains, abrasions, scuffs. A few sections of moulding are missing but nothing that detracts from the overall look and fell of the piece. The drop down desk has its original green leather inlay, unfortunately all the the keys have long been lost. But all the original brass wear is still present. Measures : Height 149cm, width 108cm, depth 72cm.
