California Designer Muriel Coleman, Iron Desk

About
Muriel Coleman (1917-2003) iron, brass, Philippine mahogany and glass top Modernist desk, circa 1952. The legs have a repeating pattern of the X form, the feet and pulls are wrapped in a brass wire, the two-drawer cabinet is constructed of a Philippine mahogany with a thick glass top for the surface area. The expanded metal rack serves as a book or magazine holder. This desk is in all original condition. Coleman's work was shown at the California's Designing Women 1896-1986 exhibit in August 2012 to January 2013 at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles. Her company was based in the Bay Area during the 1950s and she was part of Pacifica design, which was a group of designers who embodied Modernist West Coast Post War design of the period.
