Edwardian inlaid satinwood desk
Here we have this Edwardian desk made in inlaid satinwood, that was made in one of the finest workshops of the period.
Imagine the exquisite English country home this would have been made for and the gentile life it was part of.
The Edwardian period was known as the age of elegance and this desk is a fine example of this.
These desks are commonly known as bon heur du jour (good hour of the day) desks
The top with a marvelous superstructure, consisting of a pair of lidded compartments of waterfall shape, that open to reveal an interior fitted a pen-tray and letter compartments. There is also a small drawer to each side of the desk top under the lidded sections.
The leather and tooled inset writing surface is above the concave central drawer, with a pair of graduated drawers each side of the kneehole.
This elegant desk stands on square tapering legs that finish with the original brass rolling castors
Imagine yourself, sitting behind this desk of style, the chore of looking at bills would be eased somewhat!
It has an interesting history as it was taken to the USA when the English family moved to North Carolina, and then spent decades being used in the family home until it was brought back to the Lake District in England some years ago.
