French Mid-19th Century Louis XVI Style Tulipwood, Kingwood and Charmwood Desk
About the Item
A most elegant and high quality French mid-19th century Louis XVI style tulipwood, kingwood and charmwood two drawer writing desk with two pull outs. The desk is raised by slender square tapered legs with fine fitted ormolu sabots. Above each leg are attractive ormolu draped fabric garlands flanking the two central drawers. Each drawer displays beautiful and wonderfully executed marquetry ‘à la Reine’ with an elegant clover and central foliate and berried ormolu keyhole escutcheon with all original hardware. The sides and back are decorated with the same elegant marquetry designs. Each side also displays a concealed pull out writing surface with an ormolu pull which opens to display the original gold tooled leather top. Above is the same matching gold tooled fitted leather writing surface framed within a tulipwood border and a mottled ormolu wrap around gallery.
