Antique George 11nd small Kneehole Desk, English Circa 1745

About the Item

This is a fine original antique kneehole desk or dressing table from the mid-18th century, thought to have the provenance of being part of the estate of Sandford Park, a listed country house in Oxfordshire. A very useful piece for upstairs or downstairs, originally devised as a dressing table, but very similar to a small chest of drawers but with a central recessed kneehole space, having a small cupboard at the back. It has one long drawer above two pedestal tiers of three small deep graduated drawers. It has the following value points; Heavy close grained Hardwood, possibly walnut. Cock beaded drawers Original drawer handles Serpentine bracket feet Small size and elegant proportions Two working locks with keys ( which is unusual as most keys usually get lost over the years) Overall: A very useful, high quality piece that would fit nearly anywhere, even in a small house of flat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Provenance: Thought to be From Sandford Park, Sandford St Martin, Oxfordshire, the house and grounds having a historic listing. A country house with landscape park and gardens, including late C17/early C18 spiral mount, late C18 pleasure grounds and 1930s formal terraced garden.
