About the Item

We are delighted to this very well made Victorian legal clerks desk in solid mahogany with Regency blue leather writing surface made by the great company of Heal & Son’s A good looking desk, this is an original Victorian piece and not a later reproduction which is what 95% of the desk on the market for sale today are. This was made by a company that specialised in Legal desks for partners and clerks, this is a small desk so ideal for a Clerk In terms of the condition is has a lovely used vintage patina all over, we have cleaned waxed and polished it, there is nothing substantially wrong to note anywhere Dimensions Height 73cm Width 121cm Depth 51cm Leg room height 58.5cm, width 44.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Heals a short history The original Heal's firm was established in 1810 as a feather-dressing business by John Harris Heal and his son. In 1818, the business moved to Tottenham Court Road, London and expanded into bedding, bedstead and furniture manufacture and into retailing. By the end of the nineteenth century it was one of the best-known furniture suppliers in London. In the early 20th century Heal's was one of the first retailers to bring electric lighting to the British market. During the second world war the factory at Tottenham Court Road was converted to produce parachutes. Heal's featured at the Festival of Britain in 1951 and in 1977 restored the banqueting table at Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Silver Jubilee This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
