Andrew Szoeke Dry Bar, circa 1950

About

Andrew Szoeke illuminated liquor cabinet from the early 1950s. The walnut demilune dry bar has finned sides, four locking doors and eight backlit raised panels depicting the eight classical arts. The arts that Andrew Szoeke chose to represent are sculpture, music, poetry, theatre, painting, architecture, dance and ceramics. There is a push switch on the upper left side panel that turns on the exterior lighting in place that back lite the eight raised door panels giving a soft surround of light for each and the interior lights which switch on when you open the doors. There are no wood stains used to but rather a great variety of common and rarer woods. The craftsmanship in Andrew Szoeke's execution of the marquetry is remarkable. The liquor cabinet rests on a custom-made metal base. The cabinet is in excellent condition.
