Bar cabinet designed by Kurt Østervig for KP Møbler

About the Item

This rare Danish bar cabinet by Kurt Østervig for KP Møbler is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century case furniture, combining disciplined proportions with thoughtful interior function. The exterior is finished in richly figured rosewood, where dramatic grain patterns bring movement and warmth to the façade. Shelving and drawers are arranged with precision, offering dedicated storage for bottles, glassware and accessories. Three drawers sit below the shelves, with the central drawer containing a recessed removable tray designed as a chessboard, executed in contrasting woods. Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) was one of the notable figures of Danish modern design. Originally trained as a shipbuilder, he brought a strong understanding of structure and proportion to his furniture. His work was exhibited internationally, including at the Milan Triennale during the 1950s, and examples of his designs are represented in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
