About the Item

A remarkable and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI style kingwood and marble Cabinet-Vanité possibly by Maison Krieger. This cabinet may be used as a sink or wet bar and is raised on a solid rounded base with moulded edge below six drawers at each side. Each drawer has a quarter veneered façade and ormolu ruban noué keyhole escutcheon with finely chased ormolu foliate handles. The central door displays beautiful grain over the recessed quarter veneered panel, and a fine ormolu keyhole escutcheon. The door opens to reveal the original hardware and a high quality quarter veneer finished interior. Above is the original Vert Campan marble top with a stunning hand beaten fitted original copper swivel sink with an ormolu top band and ormolu acanthus leaf handle. The sink can be tilted back to pour the water into the original copper drainage basin below. The grand Vert Campan marble backsplash has four fine S scrolled supports with richly chased floral and foliate designs below the top display shelf with a pierced baluster shaped ormolu gallery. Currently displayed with a Sherle Wagner gilt faucet. Maison Krieger was founded by Antoine and Nicolas Krieger in Paris in 1826. Producing and taking part in major exhibitions of the 19th century, including the Exposition Universelle and the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie in Paris. Receiving a medal for their exhibition at the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 in London, and again in 1855, Paris. Maison Krieger created many pieces in Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, as well as 18th century and Empire designs. Maison Krieger is recorded to have been an active client of François Linke.
