Italian Cabinet Dry Bar with USSR Insignia Mirror, by Vittorio Dassi, Milano

About the Item

This rare cabinet in the style of Gio Ponti and Piero Fornasetti by Vittorio Dassi was made in Milano in the early 1950s and before 1954. The rosewood veneered wall unit can be used as a sideboard or an dry bar. The sideboard has a drop-down door with a transfer printed Piero Fornasetti style scenic decoration. The drop-down door works a dry bar, has perfect citrus- and rosewood veneered decoration. The opening reveals the dry bar and the rare etched mirror with the 1950s USSR insignia. This dates this credenza to before 1954. After Stalin's death in 1953, the USSR insignia was unlikely to be used in contemporary furniture for political reasons. This credenza was most likely made on special commission, because of the unmistakably USSR/CCCP Hammer and Sickle. The Hammer and Sickle was not only used by and for the Constitution of the USSR, but also on the Italian communist party´s flag.From 1943 and until late 1970s, the Italian communist party, was the second biggest party in Italy. Complete set of five original brass keys are included. The five keys opens each of four cabinet doors and the drop-down door. The credenza further has three drawers with fixed brass handware in the same manner as the keys. Doors, locks and drawers are in good working condition. The credenza can be taken disassembled and reassembled for delivery purposes.

Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. The center cabinet dry bar has the original red colored glass as base. The cabinet can be disassembled in to two large pieces and several small parts. Includes 2 glass shelves for the top right and left cabinets not pictured.
