18th C. Late Georgian Mahogany Secretary Bookcase

About the Item

Ca. 1780. A fine figured mahogany classic Georgian secretary bookcase with the broken bonnet in openwork foliate scrolls flanking a fluted short pedestal (it appears that it never had a finial). The double glazed doors with mullions open to two shelves. The slant front secretary opens to cubbyholes, drawers and a center compartment with a door. The case with two short over three graduated long drawers with brass bales and keyholes (lacking a key). Raised on bracket feet. A useful size for decorating. Measures: H. 88 1/2", W. top 39 1/4", W. chest 36", depth 21 3/4" Condition: stains to the drop front, writing surface with cup stain and scratched, scrapes to the feet, right side with long stable age crack and stains, left side with stains and old gouges, the aforementioned is for accuracy as the Secretary presents exceptionally well.
