This early 19th century mahogany Biedermeier secretary bureau was made in two sections, circa 1830. The top section has a superstructure with a straight cornice over a pair of serpentine doors above a central drawer, flanked by a pair of half-serpentine doors, all doors opening to reveal interior shelving. The bottom section contains a roll top, when lifted exposes a leather inset writing surface under a satinwood door with marquetry design flanked by a pair of Doric columns. Completing the appointments of this interior section are four sets of small drawers. Under the desk are four long graduated drawers and raised on short bracket feet.
