Antique Empire Cylinder-Top Secretary with Bookcase in Burled Ash

About the Item

An exceptional Empire secretary bookcase in fine burl ash wood. Denmark or North Germany, circa 1800. The bookcase features a tiered bonnet with ebonized end finials over three cabinets with a concave middle section flanked by two convex ones, all offering interior shelving for books. The base has a cylinder top that opens to a multitude of drawers surrounding a center compartment flanked by vertical document drawers. A sliding desk drawer offers a wood writing surface that was originally in baize. The area can be left as is or we can add leather. There are two sliding storage compartments, also in wood. Three large drawers provide additional storage. Note: You should always request a shipping quote.
