Early 19th Century Mahogany Secretary Desk Empire Period

About

Mahogany secretary desk with sculpted and gilt bronze accents and Saint Anne marble top. The facade houses four drawers, one on the top and three on the bottom, and a door that opens downward. Upon opening, the door reveals six more small drawers and an open compartment. The interior of the door serves as a writing surface and is lined with red leather and bordered with gilded palmettes and foliage. Two female busts in ancient Roman style flank the upper drawer. Gilt bronze lion's heads with rings in their mouths serve as drawer pulls for the exterior doors. The desk rests on four feet, the front two of which are clawed. In good condition with working locks and key. Slight deformity on the door. Empire period, circa 1810. Dimension: L 28.7 in, W 15 in, H 54.7 in. Dimension: L 73 cm, W 38 cm, H 139 cm.
