English Mahogany and Satinwood Secretary Desk Bookcase, 1790-1820

About the Item

An eccentric and highly unusual Classic Sheraton style mahogany and satinwood inlay slant front secretary with Chinese Chippendale style fine tracery (open-work) decoration. The expert craftsmanship of such a complicated item required the skill and attention of the finest cabinetmakers, to which its high level of quality can attest. Original finish recently refreshed, hardware has been re-placed, and newer gilt embossed green leather writing surface. England, late 18th-early 19th century, 1790-1820.
