About the Item

Masterfully Crafted Small Ladies’ Writing Desk A superbly detailed ladies’ secretary desk, richly decorated with intricate marquetry in walnut, maple, ash, and various other fine woods. The lower section features an elaborately designed writing compartment with six small drawers, a central tambour shutter, and a large tambour front panel adorned with pyrography, concealing the lower cabinet. The side panels are decorated with medallion scenes from the fable The Raven and the Fox, complemented by floral and amphora motifs. The upper section comprises a fold-down writing surface lined with leather and three drawers. A slightly recessed superstructure includes six small drawers framed with contoured brass mouldings and topped with a Veronese marble plate. Carefully restored and hand-polished with shellac, the piece rests on elegantly curved legs adorned with brass leaf garlands and brass sabots.
