Salem Massachusetts Federal Secretary Bookcase


In the Hepplewhite manner, a finely inlaid crotch and flame figured mahogany secretary bookcase of a slightly smaller scale. Made at Salem in the 1790s, its three drawer lower case measures 38.5" wide by 17.5" deep by 32" tall; with a fold-over cloth covered 15" deep writing surface. The upper case is also 38.5" wide, but just 10" deep and 52.5" tall; with three small drawers and three movable shelves. The enclosing glazed doors have their complete original mullion configuration.
