About the Item

The Hypostila modular shelving unit was designed in 1979 by Lluis Clotet and Oscar Tusquets to support important amounts of weights on minimum profiles, reaching an infinity of lengths and planifications. It is constructed using extruded aluminium profiles where varius elements are joined together using pieces that work on the principle of expansion. The shelves can be put in any position. Golden and Opinion Delta Award 1980 winner. MATERIALS AND FINISHES Shelves and vertical supports in extruded aluminium, brushed and anodised silver. Fixing metalwork in zinced iron. Feet in cast aluminum anodised silver. Screws in stainless steel. Oscar Tusquets Oscar Tusquets describes himself as an architect by training, a designer by adaptation, a painter by vocation and a writer through the desire to make friends. Born in Barcelona in 1941, Oscar Tusquets graduated as an architect in 1965 from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura and was a member of Studi Per, together with Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet and Mireia Riera. Together they founded BD in 1972, when he set about designing furniture and other objects, recognised by the Spanish National Design Award. A number of his pieces appear in renowned museum collections such as the MoMA in New York and the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. He has also been honoured with the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes [Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts], the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres [Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters] and the Creu de Sant Jordi [Cross of Sant Jordi]. Since the 1990s he has published books on a wide range of design related topics.
