1950s Walnut Italian Sideboard by Adolfo Genovese

About

SATURDAY SALE Long bow-fronted credenza sideboard in walnut with two cabinet doors and four drawers behind sliding tambour doors with brass pulls. The top two drawers are lined and divided for silverware. The two side cabinets each have two horizontal adjustable shelves. The sideboard floats on four tapered horn shaped legs with custom brushed brass sabots. The finish is satin apart from on the top which is high gloss clear finish. The graining throughout is beautifully matched. Even the back is a single sheet of handsomely grained Lauan. Designed and hand crafted in the 1950s by Adolfo Genovese for F & G Hand Made Furniture of Cambridge, Mass. F & G, which was owned by brothers Adolfo and Edward Genovese, operated from the late 1940's through the mid-1970s and created exceptionally well built "old-school" bespoke furniture in many styles, never yielding their high standards for the sake of cost or expediency. This piece has been in the same home since it was first made circa 1953. See out other listings for the elliptical dining table, modernist dining chairs and marble topped server. Very similar to a design by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan Dreyfus: The Complete Kagan- A Lifetime of Avant-Garde Design, Vladimir Kagan, pg. 69.
