19th century American Monumental Mirrored Mahogany Sideboard with Carved Eagle
About the Item
Truly one of a kind and right out of a Southern antebellum home, this monumental sized mahogany sideboard features all the bells and whistles of the Rococo Revival furniture period. Attributed to J.H. Belter, a New York cabinet maker, taste for his "French" designs was strongest in the deep South in homes of the lower Mississippi Valley.
Four reflective mirrors are featured below with a large hand carved mirror atop the double beveled serpentine cut marble top surface. A large carved majestic eagle serves as the crest, with fruit, wheat and leaf decoration throughout. Museum quality.
Shelves behind all four cabinet doors. with lock and key mechanism in center.
