Art Nouveau Sideboard in the Style of Eugène Gaillard, 1900s

About

Art Nouveau sideboard in walnut, in the style of Eugène Gaillard, 1900s. Fluted feet, broadened to the lower end. Profiled frame with small apron. Open lower compartment, with ornamental gallery with floral ornamentation. The compartment is closed by a circular arch. Two side coffered doors with fine curved floral ornaments. Middle door, also with floral ornamentation. The side doors are decorated with finely carved brass ornaments in the form of leaves. All doors have elaborate key signs. The protruding and profiled wooden top plate is supported by lateral supports. All locks and key plates are original. The sideboard originates from the circle of the French Art Nouveau architect and designer Eugène Gaillard (1862-1933). Gaillard began his career as a sculptor in Paris. His contribution to the pavilion of the art dealer Siegfried Bing at the Paris World Exhibition of 1900 made him one of the most important French Art Nouveau artists for furniture and interior design. He also distinguished himself as an art theoretician and pubished a famous work about his creations in 1906. (Research and text: Art historian Jens J. Reinke, M.A.)
