Chinese Six Door Storage Coffer, C. 1900

About the Item

Created in the style of Mongolian storage coffers, this early 20th-century sideboard from Gansu province has a straightforward design and plenty of rustic appeal. Originally configured to open from the top, this chest was modified with front-facing doors by our carpenters skilled in traditional joinery. Subtle carved details add design intrigue to the cabinet's clean lines, including floral scrollwork on the drawers and s-form cutouts at the feet. The coffer has been recently refinished to a rich brown with lightly weathered texture, marked by traces of the original red lacquer finish. Additional Dimensions: Drawers: 12.75"W x 16"D x 5"H Door Openings: 23"W Shelves: 11"H.
