Carved Credenza, France, 1930s

About the Item

Spectacular and unusual large two-door sideboard. Mahogany and sculpted fruitwood doors. The base has a superb, very graphic line. The doors are elaborately carved in relief, representing an agricultural scene (wheat-harvesting in the fields). The doors open onto two shelving areas separated by a central stack of shelves. The interior is edged with a delicate decorative frieze in blond and green-colored wood. A slab of light pinky granite veined with grey is set into the top. Very lovely and well-made piece, down to the small details. Bibliography: Duncan, Alastair. Art Deco Complete. Thames & Hudson Ltd., 2009.
