About

A French Art Nouveau “Les Pins” vitrine by Louis Majorelle. This three-door vitrine consists of a mahogany frame with rosewood sides, rosewood door frames and burl walnut panels at the bottom. The mahogany columns of the tripartite vitrine are ornamented with stylized “pins”, or pine cones, that are abstracted and reimagined as Art Nouveau-style capitals.

This vitrine is the largest of the “Les Pins” series, making it the perfect piece for housing a collection of decorative arts and objets, circa 1904.

A similar piece pictured in: “Majorelle - Nancy: décorations d’intérieurs: meubles, tentures, bronzes, ferronneries”, the 1906 Majorelle catalog. This piece is pictured in situ in a “Les Pins” room that was staged for the catalog.
