About the Item

An interesting diminutive design of excellent craftsmanship, the light proportions are accentuated by unusually high turned-tapered and fluted feet, increasing the overall presence of the piece while making the form even more airy to the eye. It is a beautiful effect, one only heightened by the unreal quality of the mounts embellishing the case. Each upper corner is surmounted by a deeply cast and exquisitely finished rosette flanking a repeating swirling circular display of acanthus around all three sides. Ionic capitals crest the square Neoclassical brass fluted columns that flank the bevelled glass door, opening with it's original key to access four glass shelves that easily adjust on round wooden pins along the corners. The Bréche d'Alep top is surrounded by a raised brass gallery. A marvelous presentation piece for displaying works of art, nicely protecting from dust while elevating them in a cabinet with great presence. This is a piece that will certainly be cherished by any collector of smalls looking for a tasteful way to display. Measurements: 65 1/2" H x 27 3/16" W x 11 3/16" D Condition Report: Missing one glass shelf, a few shelves with chipping to left and right edges; mirrors with silvering. Left and right sides of apron missing small portions of bronze mounts. Surface wear, scuffing and abrasions, as expected. Retains early and probably original key, the lock functioning nicely with some accompanying wear around the escutcheon. Some nails added to left columns leftmost brass fluting.
