Important & Unique Arts and Crafts Display / Drinks Cabinet by Napoleon Le Grand

About the Item

Incredible design and top quality workmanship from Amsterdam from the early 1900's. As promised in one of our other listings, here is the original and unique display or tea cabinet from 't Modelhuis by Jewish maker Napoleon le Grand. From the same home we also have a solid nutwood ladies desk with matching chair, which now also is listed on 1stdibs. Work from this Amsterdam based, Jewish furniture maker from the early 20th century is extremely hard to find and his pieces never fail to impress. This solid oak display cabinet is inlaid with crisp, geometrical motifs and also with stunning, stylized animals on all sides. From this maker in general and with these inlaid animals in particular, only very few pieces are known in the world today. This fine specimen has a few minor imperfections, but the unique craftsmanship and the stunning inlaid animal sculptures are an absolute joy to look at. The combination of the design, the fresh colours and the incredible craftsmanship that it breathes, simply lifts your spirit in a way that no contemporary piece ever could. This display cabinet has folding doors on both sides and both come with the original beveled glass panels. Former owners have screwed one door tight with one screw (from the inside). Unscrewed, all it takes is a small chain to help that folding door to stop at the right height. We can take care of this, if you wish. Mind you, our price for this museum worthy cabinet includes perfect packing (in a custom made box or crate) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Maximum height x width x depth: 28.3 x 25.2 x 16.5 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.

  • Unique Liberty & Co Marked Great Arts & Crafts Cabinet Attr. to Leonard Wyburd
    By Leonard Wyburd
    Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning Arts and Crafts cupboard by one of the greatest. We are certain that this wonderful handcrafted, stained oak cabinet was designed by Leonard Francis Wyburd (1865-1958). We are certain, because of several style elements that are typical for his designs for Liberty & Co in the late 19th century. We have no pictures in books or other evidence, but the pieces from his hand that can be found on the internet reveal style elements that are very similar and they were used by no one else. The design of this incredibly artistic piece shows both the influences of Medieval and Rural Britain. It were these early and amazing pieces of furniture from the Liberty Studio (headed by Wyburd) that made people across the continent speak of the 'Stile Liberty'. Designers like Wyburd and pieces of furniture like this amazing cabinet, influenced and shaped the entire development of the Jugendstil and Art Nouveau in Europe. That too makes this rare piece important for collectors and possibly for museums around the world. This cupboard is a work of art and it is an absolute joy to look at. It is all made of solid and stained oak and apart from the stunning and impressive overal design with the overhanging top with supporting beams, there are some key style elements that make this cabinet really stand out. First of all, there is the ever so true saying which is embossed in copper in beautiful Arts and Crafts letters which reads 'WELCOME IS THE BEST CHEER'. Secondly, there are the rare leather panels in the doors which come with (faded) images in slight reliëf. The one on the left is of a man in a hat and tights and he is playing a mandolin. The leather artwork...
