3-Leg Italian Mid Century Brass Bar Cart with Smoked Glass by Cesare Lacca

About the Item

This is the three-leg Italian mid-century bar cart in brass, glass and wood. It comes with two removable shelves in dark smoked glass which, together with the shiny brass, give a luxurious Hollywood Regency aesthetic. The upper and lower sections are held together by ebonized, baluster-shaped wooden legs. The handle has a softly rounded form with a Bakelite grip. The circular shelf’s dark, smoky color appears almost black at first glance, yet reveals a subtle burgundy hue in strong light. In addition, the underside of the glass shelves is intricately ribbed, with a series of narrow grooves that catch the light and add a refined texture. The cart is fitted with its original 360° swivel casters. Both wheels and ball bearings are in very good condition and roll smoothly. They were manufactured by the German quality company TENTE, founded in 1923 in Wermelskirchen, Germany. The company is still in operation today, with its headquarters located in Cologne. ____________________ Cesare Lacca was an Italian designer and producer active primarily during the mid-20th century, working in the Milan region. He is best known for bar carts and serving furniture made from polished brass combined with smoked glass and ebonized wood. Lacca’s designs were often produced in small series, allowing for careful craftsmanship and high material quality. Many of his pieces are compact in size, which makes them easy to place. His work is characterized by elegant proportions, sculptural brass frames, and the contrast between shiny metal, dark glass, and ebonized wood. Light, well-defined forms are a recurring element throughout his designs. Stylistically, his pieces are associated with Hollywood Regency and neoclassical glamour, combining functional design with a luxurious, decorative presence. Objects by Cesare Lacca are today regarded as belonging to the upper segment of sought-after Italian mid-century design.
