English Leather-Top Center Table in Cuban Mahogany

About the Item

English leather-top center table in now-extinct Cuban mahogany. Leather-covered shaped top surrounded by original mercury-gilt cast brass decorative edge. Leather top is hand-tooled and gilded. Base features matching mercury-gilt cast brass decoration. The mercury-gilding is all-original and mostly intact with some losses. Exposed brass reveals small amounts of verdigris patina (where copper and zinc mixed unevenly to create the cast brass adornment). The early deep, rich polished finish of this circa 1815-1840 statement piece is recently refreshed by an expert hand. Note: Original/early finish on antique and vintage metal will include some, or all, of the following: patina, scaling, light rust, discoloration, and corrosion. Regional differences in humidity and climate during shipping may cause antique and vintage wood to shrink and/or split along its grain, veneer to loosen and/or peel, and painted finishes and gilt to crack and flake.

    Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. All original with the exception of a restored leather top. Some minor fading and losses of the mercury-gilded details on brass decoration. Refreshed polished finish. Top fits onto base and can easily be removed for transport.
