Italian 19th Century Marquetry Inlay Pedestal Table

About the Item

A spellbinding Italian tilt-top table whose geometric surface is a meticulous arrangement of inlaid mahogany, ebonized woods, and satinwood veneer in a radiating wheel. The outer edges are distinguished by an ebonized wood trim, echoing the first concentric ring with little lozenge-shaped pieces of satinwood inlay. Wedges of gorgeous mahogany lead the eye into the center which is occupied by a stylized pinwheel of virgules. The hexagonal column branches into a tripod base of thick feet in stylized ogee profile (ebonized on the top). Small wooden knobs easily twist to unlock the pivoting mechanism so the table can flip into the upright position when not in use. This striking tilt-top design will be an excellent choice for a center table, game table, and more. It has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to be ready for your interior. There do appear to be a few repairs in the surface that hardly distract from the magnificent inlay work. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
